'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: 'Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind'

Hollywood Crush

'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: 'Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind'

Pretty Little LiarsLet's dispatch with the pleasantries and get this over with: Is Toby dead or is this all a ruse perpetrated by the A Team?

By the end of last night's "Pretty Little Liars" episode, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," Spencer had followed Mona into the woods, where she uncovered what appeared to be Toby's body, with the tell-tale "901 Free At Last" tattoo in full view. Yet, Spencer didn't remove the motorcyclist's helmet, meaning we can't be absolutely certain it was Toby. Also, did she check for a pulse? The finer points of the investigatory sciences didn't seem to matter much to Spencer, as she suffered a complete breakdown, wandering in the wilderness for hours until a hiker alerted the authorities, who retrieved her and sent her directly to Radley (which seemed a little too "American Horror Story: Asylum" for my taste).

Beyond the veracity of Toby's demise, my big question is why he had to die in the first place. It couldn't have simply been as punishment to Spencer for blabbing Toby's real identity to the other liars. After all, Toby seemed an integral part of the A Team. Wouldn't he be too valuable to get rid of? Or, perhaps he had served his part and was no longer needed? Whatever the case, I'm going to need a lot more explanation from producers as to the reason Toby needed to die (if he is, in fact, dearly departed).

Of course, this being Rosewood, plenty more shenanigans were afoot as Spencer learned the Toby's tragic truth. Hanna was at work cleaning up her mother's mess (you'll remember from last week's episode that Ashley hit Officer Wilden with her car and fled the scene—only to return hours later with his body nowhere to be found). Hanna insisted her mom call neither the hospital nor her lawyer until they knew the extent of the situation. But no news ever came to light. (Is no news good news in this case? I doubt it.) Well, that is, until Officer Wilden's cruiser turned up in the Marin's garage. And like a pair of mobster lackeys, Hanna and Aria pushed the vehicle into a lake. Was I the only thinking that Wilden's body was probably in the trunk (despite Ashley's sighting of him earlier in the day)? I hope I'm right! But I digress: I agree with Aria that the whole scheme was a horrible idea. There have to be back-up tapes of the surveillance cam recording. Getting rid of the car isn't going to help anything.

When not destroying evidence, Aria was trying to make nice with Ezra's, son Malcolm, who was in town for a few days with his mother as she looked for a job in Rosewood. Aria even babysat the tyke while mom and dad were out and, of course, he hurt himself, necessitating stitches and a whole lot of apologizing on Aria's part. Predictable.

Not to be forgotten, Emily spent much of the episode trying to clear Toby's name and, well, you can see how well that went. Do you think Toby's mysterious, wood-working colleague will play a further role as events unfold? If we know anything about "Pretty Little Liars" it's to suspect everyone.

What did you think about last night's "Pretty Little Liars"? Is Toby really dead? How are the girls going to bust Spencer out of Radley? (Because, obviously, they won't just call Mrs. Hastings. That'd be too easy.) Where do you think Officer Wilden is? When do you think we'll find out who the girl in red is? Tell us everything in the comments and on Twitter!

'The Selection' Gets A Brand New America

Hollywood Crush

'The Selection' Gets A Brand New America

Here's a cause for cautious celebration: "The Selection," the CW pilot based on Kiera Cass' YA dystopian dating-game drama, has a leading lady! Again! For real, this time! Deadline reports that Israeli actress Yael Grobglas has officially snagged the role of America Singer, the working-class heroine who must compete against a gaggle of fellow bachelorettes in a national, televised competition for the love of the dashing Prince Maxon.

Yael is looking to make a name for herself on American television after headlining a series in her native Israel, and snagging the lead in a highly anticipated YA book-to-film adaptation like this one could be a major coup for the as-yet-unknown actress. But more importantly, this is a big step forward for the pilot, which has been plagued by delays despite having its rights snapped up by Hollywood long before the book even hit shelves.

A back-to-the-drawing-board rewrite last year resulted in the loss of several important cast members—since actors, like dairy products, can't just be kept sitting around forever lest they get all lumpy and start to smell funny—and The CW still needs to net itself a couple cute guys to compete for the affections of Yael's America. But with a leading lady in place, it seems safe to say that the show will go on with its plans for a reshoot, which means that fans of "The Selection" could see their long-awaited payoff sometime later this year.

Are you excited to see a new actress in place on "The Selection"?

Godfrey Gao Strips Down To His Skivvies For 'Mortal Instruments' Magnus

Godfrey Gao Strips Down To His Skivvies For 'Mortal Instruments' Magnus

Mundanes: We have five words that will likely send you into a fit of hysterics not even a calming rune could soothe. Are you ready? (Don't say we didn't warn you.) Here they be:

Magnus Bane. In his boxers.

It's true! It's so gloriously true! When MTV News' Josh Horowitz stopped by the set of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" last year to chat up the cast about the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's best-selling novel, he found actor Godfrey Gao in a curious state of undress.

"It's really cold," Godfrey—done up in Magnus' signature makeup, a velvet blazer and sans pants—said. "At first, I was like, 'All right, I thought this party was going to be an indoor mansion with a lot of lights and chandeliers like you see in back.' Turns out, it's outside, and it's actually, I think, 11 degrees Celsius [51 degrees Fahrenheit], so I'm just hanging out with my boxers on and everyone sees ... I have great legs. But it's very fun to play Magnus Bane, as you can see."

Oh, we can see, Godfrey. We can see.

And despite the actor's poise (would you be so calm in your underwear?), he admitted to feeling nervous bringing such a beloved character to life.

"There's actually a really big pressure because I know there are a lot of fans out there, and everyone loves Magnus Bane, and I love Magnus Bane," he said. "So I just wanted to play a sort of cool-looking Magnus Bane, but I also wanted to bring out the flamboyant side. The party side of Magnus Bane, so hopefully everybody can enjoy what I bring to you on screen."

And take note, all you Magnus enthusiasts: We learned while on set that an additional scene featuring the warlock has been added to the screenplay!

"It is really cool," Godfrey said of the bonus moment.

We can't wait to see that, and a lot more, Godfrey.

Now that you've seen Magnus in the flesh, what do you think? Are you even more excited for the premiere of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones"? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

Oscars Fashion: Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart See The Light

Hollywood Crush

Oscars Fashion: Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart See The Light

Color is so 2012. This year, whites, creams and blushes ruled the Oscars red carpet, as our favorite starlets strutted in hues that defied the rainbow.

Leading the ladies was "Silver Linings Playbook" star and Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who looked like she was ready to walk down the aisle in her pale pink Dior Haute Couture gown. (A hint of what's to come in "Catching Fire," perhaps?) Also in fine, fair form (some might even say the fairest of them all) was "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress Kristen Stewart, who worked her Reem Acra like a boss, despite toting a pair of crutches as accessories. (GUUUURRRRRRLLLL, you gotta be careful!)

Then there was statuesque Charlize Theron looking all kinds of regal in a white peplum Dior (and shorn 'do), while Zoe Saldana dared a touch of colorful flirt at the bottom of her Alexis Mabile Couture train. Love.

Of course, there's plenty more bright whites where that came from. Be sure to check in with our gal pals over at MTV Style for their full fashion coverage of the 2013 Oscars.

Taylor Swift's Relationships Are 'Fair Game'

Hollywood Crush

Taylor Swift's Relationships Are 'Fair Game'

Taylor Swift is gracing the April cover of InStyle UK, looking as gorgeous as ever in a gray couture gown, but it’s what the singer is saying inside that is sure to get everyone’s attention.

So listen up, Harry Styles and John Mayer: Taylor is totally cool with you writing songs about her. Why? Well, mostly because she’s bound to write a tune or two about you somewhere along the way. "If I’m gonna write songs about my exes they can write songs about me,” she said in the issue, out March 7. “That’s how it works.”

Taylor has always written about her personal life in her music, without naming names. And, in the rules according to Swift, all’s fair in love and war...and music. She added, “I’m not gonna complain about it. I’m not gonna sit there and say, ‘I’m the only one who can write songs about this relationship.’ It’s fair game."

The Grammy-winner has always been candid about using her real life as songwriting fodder. In an interview with MTV News last October, when she dropped her Red album, she revealed why she uses her personal life to write very public odes. "I really tend to draw inspiration from my life and from the characters in my life," she said. "And it's just kind of for me something I've always loved doing, watching life play out and kind of making a song out of that.

"It's why I write most of my songs about emotions and feelings and relationship issues because that's what confuses us most in life," Taylor added. "So it's nice to feel that there's more than just you feeling that way."

Jennifer Lawrence's Miss Dior Pics Debut!

Effie Trinket would be so proud!

"The Hunger Games" starlet Jennifer Lawrence looks every inch the stunning sophisticate in a new series of ads for Miss Dior that debuted today on Women's Wear Daily.

As you'll recall, the 22-year-old was tapped last October to be the new face of the handbag—a quilted clutch that doubles as a shoulder bag with its silver chain handle. (Is it too early to add the accessory to our Christmas wish list? Please, Santa!?)

According to WWD, the sleek ads will make their official print debut in Numero magazine later this month, followed by a number of titles in April.

No word yet whether Jen will carry a Miss Dior Bag to this weekend's Academy Awards ceremony (where she's nominated for a Best Actress statuette for her work in "Silver Linings Playbook"), but it looks like the purse might be just roomy enough to stash a shiny gold man. Just saying.

Kristen Stewart Added To Oscar Presenters List!

With just days until the 2013 Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is cinching up all the ceremonial loose ends, including revealing a new round of presenters that boasts "Twilight" starlet Kristen Stewart!

Of course, this won't be the first time for the 22-year-old: She and Taylor Lautner took the stage at the 2010 ceremony to present a tribute to horror films. This, a year after co-star Robert Pattinson and Amanda Seyfried had a similar duty, presenting a montage of what romance looked like on film in 2008.

Kristen's presence at the big show is fitting, seeing as her fairy-tale epic "Snow White and the Huntsman" is up for two awards: Best Achievement in Costume Design (read MTV Style's interview with nominee Colleen Atwood) and Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Kristen joins a prestigious crew of statuette-foisters that already includes Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Reese Witherspoon, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Evans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, among others.

'Mortal Instruments' Movie May Slay You

If you find yourself pining after a patience rune as you count down the days until "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" debuts in theaters on August 23, you can at least take heart knowing that it's probably going to be really, really good.

This according to star Kevin Zegers, who took to Twitter today to hype the film for fans.

For the uninitiated, "City of Bones" revolves around Brooklyn teen Clary Fray (played by Lily Collins), who discovers she's a member of a secret race of demon-slayers known as Shadowhunters. Kevin plays a Shadowhunter ally named Alec, though the two have an often contentious relationship. One we, obviously, can't wait to see brought to life on the big screen!

Would You See A 'Beautiful Creatures' Sequel?

Beautiful CreaturesAfter so many months of waiting, we were terribly excited to spend our Valentine's Day last week with one Ethan Wate (and the rest of the cast of "Beautiful Creatures.") But after that blissful, romantic, black-magical two hours beneath the live oaks, it might be time for us to sit down, sip some sweet tea, and have that awkward but all-important talk about Where This Relationship Is Going. After all, there are three more volumes in the "Caster Chronicles," the literary source material for this southern gothic love story—and there's no shortage of ripe-for-adaptation drama contained therein!

But with no current plans for a cinematic sequel in the works, we'll have to wait and see whether the studio wants to make movie magic with the Duchannes witches again...and, of course, whether the fans want to see it happen. So, you tell us: Are you raring for a "Beautiful Creatures" franchise, or was one trip to Gatlin enough?

'Safe Haven' Star Josh Duhamel And The Perfect Smolder

Hollywood Crush

'Safe Haven' Star Josh Duhamel And The Perfect Smolder

Second only to the art of making out in a torrential downpour, the ability to affect a convincing smolder must be a top-line resume item for any actor looking to land the lead in a Nicholas Sparks adaptation. Obviously. And so it was that Josh Duhamel, star of "Safe Haven," taught himself to brood with the best of them.

"Lots and lots of rehearsal in the mirror," Duhamel told MTV News of his preparation for the film. "Tape recording my voice into a tape recorder. Playing it back. 'Hmm, not quite smoldery enough.' I'd do it again until I'm ready for Nicholas Sparks, and that was the extent of my preparation for this film. Lots of vanity."

And all that vanity paid off, with Mr. Duhamel earning his place within the Smolder Society of America.

Ryan Gosling will teach you the secret handshake next week, Josh.

"Safe Haven," which also stars Julianne Hough and Cobie Smulders, is out in theaters now.

New 'The Host' Trailer Is Off And Running

Are you feeling lonely and loveless this Valentine's Day? Well, hey! How would you like to enjoy a truly intimate bonding experience with an alien life form that wants to steal your body, overwrite your memories and turn you into a walking meatsack with no free will of your own?

No, we're not asking you to marry us (ha! HA!); we've just got our mitts on the new trailer for "The Host," the cinematic adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name, in which the world has been overtaken by parasitic alien Souls who now occupy the bodies of all but a few surviving earthlings. Saoirse Ronan plays resistance fighter Melanie, who is captured and injected with the consciousness of a soul called Wanderer, giving way to lots of car chases and confrontations and Diane Kruger making her patented "I am fiercely cheesed" face.

Where the previous sneak peek at "The Host" focused mostly on Melanie, and her pre-capture romance with fellow survivor Jared (Max Irons), this new trailer is more focused on what happens after she's compromised and features at least 500% more scenes in which Melanie stares at Jared longingly while he glares at her weird glowing irises and looks really tortured about it. Also, kissing and gunfights! Enjoy!

"The Host" is out in theaters March 29.

'Beautiful Creatures' Movie: Magical Or Mundane?

Hollywood Crush

'Beautiful Creatures' Movie: Magical Or Mundane?

The witching hour is here! With the Valentine's Day release of "Beautiful Creatures," fans of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's best-selling novel are finally getting a glimpse of the authors' Southern gothic world brought to breathtaking life... albeit with a number of alterations.

(SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM!)

Now, if you're a source-material purist, you very well may be irked by the fact that Amma and Marian were mushed into a single character portrayed by Viola Davis, or that Mitchell Wate never emerged from his room, or that "Sixteen Moons" was nowhere to be found on Ethan's iPod, or that Lena's actions during the film's climax didn't echo ancestor Genevieve's critical mistake, or that the ending, ultimately, was completely different from the book.

Obviously, a film will never be a carbon copy of the novel upon which it's based, and it's best to go into the viewing experience not expecting that to be the case. However, this particular adaptation included a lot of fundamental changes that, for me, were not always welcome. That's not to say I didn't enjoy "Beautiful Creatures" for what it was, but I would have liked a little more continuity between the original and its celluloid reproduction.

Of course, everything I've said is moot if you haven't read the YA best-seller (or aren't nearly as precious about source material as I am), but this is just my take. Now I want to hear from you! What did you think of the film? Do you care that it diverged from the book? Or does it not matter? Vote in our poll below!

Julie Kagawa's Untitled Series Is Already Headed For Hollywood!

Turns out, we're not the only ones salivating in advance over the mysterious, not-yet-titled, not-even-coming-out-for-another-two-years fantasy YA series that Julie Kagawa is set to publish with Harlequin in 2015. Fresh on the heels of a five-book deal for a fantabulously large sum of money, the proposal was snatched up a second time late last week—this time by Universal, which wants to make the whole thing into a movie and/or series thereof. Which is especially amazing, considering that the first book hasn't even been written yet. How awesome must this story be?!

Per the announcement from The Hollywood Reporter, Universal already has producer Chris Morgan attached to the project, the storyline of which is described as "set in a present-day coastal town where mythical creatures hide amongst us cloaked as humans."

And if you're on the edge of your seat right now shouting, "Yes? AND?! Tell me more!", then, ugh, we feel you, but there's nothing else to know right now. Sob/pout. But Julie's next "Blood of Eden" book will hit shelves in May, so let's all look forward to that while we wait for the dish to drop on this whole "mythical beings" thing...and feel free to leave your guesses and theories in the comments. (What sort of mythical beings, do you think? Centaurs? Gorgons? Men with six-pack abs who love Jane Austen and cats and aren't afraid to commit? Discuss!)

Kristen Stewart, Elizabeth Banks To Star Together In 'The Big Shoe'

Ohmigod you guys, our two franchise favorites of all time just collided and we are freaking out: Kristen Stewart (a.k.a. the once, future, and forever Mrs. Edward Cullen) and Elizabeth Banks (a.k.a. the Panem Capitol's most flamboyant fashionista) have been cast together in a new comedy flick about the cutthroat crazy world of footwear design.

According to Deadline, the two actresses are on board in supporting roles for "The Big Shoe," which is being pegged as a dark, erotic, funny film in the same vein as "Secretary" (although presumably with less James Spader-administered spankings.)

Kristen will play the young muse to the movie's main character, an inspired shoe designer who doesn't want to give up his genius designs to a low-rent, mass-production operation that would create knockoffs of his work at a fraction of the price. Elizabeth is on board in the role of a psychotherapist who tries to convince the hero to sell out. "The O.C." and "Gossip Girl" never crossed airwaves, but it looks like Seth Cohen and Blair Waldorf will remedy that oversight on their own.

'Vampire Academy' Enrolls Lead Zoey Deutch

The big-screen adaptation of Richelle Mead's "Vampire Academy" has found its lead—and she's one of the "Beautiful Creatures"!

Actress Zoey Deutch, who appears in the Southern gothic out February 14, will play tempestuous Dhampir Rose Hathaway when production begins on the blood-sucking flick this summer, Deadline reports. Also cast are Australian newcomer Lucy Fry, who will Rose's best friend Lissa Dragomir, and Russian actor Danila Kozlovskiy, who will play Rose's mentor and love interest Dimitri Belikov.

Mark Waters ("Mean Girls") will direct based on a script written by brother Dan Waters.

The film, which has been renamed "Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters," follows best friends Rose and Lissa, who through a twist of fate have become "shadow-kissed" (meaning they are telepathically bound to each other). And if you're worried this will be just another overwrought vampire romance, executive producer Stuart Ford dropped a little knowledge that should have you breathing a sigh of relief.

“Tonally this so different from all these movies that are so solemn and serious,” Stuart told Deadline. “This is as much 'Mean Girls' as 'The Hunger Games.' It is snappy, irreverent, sexy and just a lot of fun.”

Let the school year begin!

'Girls' Star Allison Williams Explains Marnie's Attraction To Booth Jonathan

'Girls' Star Allison Williams Explains Marnie's Attraction To Booth Jonathan

The "Girls" of HBO have endured their fair share of awkward sexual encounters (Cabbage Patch lunchbox fantasies, anyone?), but perhaps the most cringe-worthy coitus came during Sunday's "Bad Friend," in which Marnie found herself beneath Booth Jonathan, describing the sassy porcelain doll positioned at the foot of his bed.

What exactly is the appeal of this "smidge of an artist," as Hannah put it? We went to the source for the answer: Marnie's alter-ego Allison Williams.

"It's a classic character, except it's written so specifically in this case," Allison explained. "He's just the kind of guy that you know better, for every reason, and yet you just can't avoid him. You just can't run away from him."

Especially when he shows up at your place of employment!

Now, if you haven't watched this weekend's episode, "It's a Shame About Ray" (made available early by HBO thanks to the Super Bowl), you should know that it features an infinitely sweet moment between lovebirds Shoshanna and Ray. We also spoke with actor Alex Karpovsky recently about the couple's odd-ball romance and what attracts them to one another. (Preview: "Ray's really sick of these ironic, hipster girls...")

It's all in the video above so get clicking!

What do you think of the fledgling romance between Marnie and Booth Jonathan? How about Shoshanna and Ray? Would you date either of them? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

Style Superstar: Jessica Chastain Is Va-Va-Voom At The SAG Awards

Style Superstar: Jessica Chastain Is Va-Va-Voom At The SAG Awards

Nothing makes us sadder come Style Superstar time than an awards season repeat offender: a fashionista failure who just can't seem to get it right no matter how many gowns she tries on or red carpets she walks. But on the other hand, nothing makes us happier than taking a previous worst-dressed pick and handing her all of the awards for a total style turnaround! And this week, we're so psyched to bestow the best-dressed and most-improved honors on Jessica Chastain for her SAG Awards superiority.

Yes! Yay! This is exactly what we were hoping for: Jessica's sizzling Alexander McQueen dress has all but erased the memory of her ill-fitting look from the Golden Globes. The actress proved that redheads and scarlet gowns need not avoid each other, wowing everyone in a form-fitting strapless satin gown and a blazing diamond necklace. Sure, there were a fair few "Jessica Rabbit" references on the part of certain snarky fashion critics, but they're just jealous, no doubt—and we're thrilled to see Jessica back on top of her style game.

And elsewhere at the SAG Awards: oooooh, Claire Danes. This asymmetrical gown with a gothic vibe was a decidedly different look for the "Homeland" actress, who usually favors drapey dresses in less-heavy fabrics, and she carried it off beautifully...from the neck down. But her makeup missed the mark: the combination of brown eye shadow and matte plum-colored lips drained all the color right out of her face, and made her look pale and haunted.

What do you think of this week's best and worst dressed?

Nina Dobrev Is 'Bang-ing'

Nina Dobrev Is 'Bang-ing'

If something looked a bit different about "Vampire Diaries" starlet Nina Dobrev at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, it's likely because the actress added a bit of fringe up front. And, like any of us who have made the bold cut, is now wondering how to tame her locks.

It's hard to imagine the always put-together Nina having any style issues, but I guess there's a first time for everything, huh?

Have any bang advice for Nina? Leave it in the comments below!
