'Vampire Academy' Enrolls Lead Zoey Deutch
The big-screen adaptation of Richelle Mead's "Vampire Academy" has found its lead—and she's one of the "Beautiful Creatures"!
Actress Zoey Deutch, who appears in the Southern gothic out February 14, will play tempestuous Dhampir Rose Hathaway when production begins on the blood-sucking flick this summer, Deadline reports. Also cast are Australian newcomer Lucy Fry, who will Rose's best friend Lissa Dragomir, and Russian actor Danila Kozlovskiy, who will play Rose's mentor and love interest Dimitri Belikov.
Mark Waters ("Mean Girls") will direct based on a script written by brother Dan Waters.
The film, which has been renamed "Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters," follows best friends Rose and Lissa, who through a twist of fate have become "shadow-kissed" (meaning they are telepathically bound to each other). And if you're worried this will be just another overwrought vampire romance, executive producer Stuart Ford dropped a little knowledge that should have you breathing a sigh of relief.
“Tonally this so different from all these movies that are so solemn and serious,” Stuart told Deadline. “This is as much 'Mean Girls' as 'The Hunger Games.' It is snappy, irreverent, sexy and just a lot of fun.”
Let the school year begin!
