Kristen Stewart Recalls Reading 'On The Road' Young

With Jack Kerouac's beatnik classic "On the Road" cruising into theaters December 21, MTV News has been making good time with the film's cast, including Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart (who wore an, um, interesting sheer frock to the film's New York premiere last night). And, as it turns out, each star stumbled upon the seminal work during their teen years (or younger), with Kristen remembering "On the Road" as just one of a handful of mature films and books she experienced earlier than most.

"I had no rules," Kristen explained of her parents' lenient household. "I wasn't not allowed to watch R-rated movies. I don't even know why."

Among those R-rated movies? "I saw 'Taxi Driver when I was really, really young," she said. "'The Shining' was one of my favorite movies. When I was really young, 'Castle Freak' scared me—it's funny 'The Shining' didn't. I love that. It's one of my favorite movies."

Coincidentally—or perhaps not so coincidentally—"Taxi Driver" stars Kristen's "Panic Room" co-star Jodie Foster, who was also a very tender age while filming the gritty drama.

How old were you when you read "On the Road"? Are you planning on buckling in for the film? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
