'Gone Girl' Casting: Rosamund Pike Is Amy

Rosamund PikeThe "Gone Girl" has been found.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news that "Jack Reacher" actress Rosamund Pike, rumored to be in contention for the role of Amy Dunne, will indeed star opposite Ben Affleck in the big-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel.

Directed by David Fincher, the film centers around the disappearance of 30-something Amy on her fifth wedding anniversary, with suspicion—and the ensuing media circus—landing on husband Nick's doorstep.

The role of Amy could be Rosamund's most high-profile to date after turns in "Die Another Day," "Pride & Prejudice" and "Fracture." A number of Hollywood heavyweights were being eyed for the role, including Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

Also of note in THR's report: Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are being considered for supporting roles ... as who, we're not sure. But the MTV Newsroom has unanimously agreed that NPH should play Amy's creepy ex-boyfriend, Desi, so we hope you've got our backs on this one, Fincher.

Production on "Gone Girl" is set to begin in September.
